Built for Generations
Increase cow comfort and milk production with an animal shelter that will stand the test of time. Designed for durability and efficiency, quality materials ensure your animal shelter stands strong for generations to come.
Structural Steel Rafters
5-10mm thick structural steel rafters provide maximum durability and rust protection to ensure a lasting and valuable addition to your property.
Timber Poles and Framing
Pre-dried timber makes it lighter, easier to handle, and resistant to warping over time. H5-treated timber poles and H3.2-treated framing also provide a structure that will last for future generations to use.
50-Year Building Consent
Let our in-house team of experts handle the complex council process, saving you the headache of navigating compliance requirements on your own.

Vented Ridges
Vented ridges are a critical design element. Using proven design methods allows maximum airflow and ventilation to ensure optimal composting conditions.
The vented ridge design depends on what span your building is, and how many cows will be residing inside. Alpine’s design team can help you design an animal shelter that will work for you.

FAQs
Got questions? You’re not alone. Find clear, straightforward answers to the most common concerns about designing, building, and customising your shed.
What is the most common roof pitch for a composting barn?
What is the typical vented ridge throat?
The throat or opening at the ridge should typically be about 1.5% of the total building width. However, this depends on a number of factors; get in touch with the team to find out what is best suited to your needs.
What retaining system should I use?
Retaining is essential to contain the compost and stop water from entering the composting area. The most durable option is concrete nib walls.
Timber retaining walls are also a good option and are more cost-effective; however, they can be damaged by tractors when tilling the compost.
How long do Alpine's herd homes last?
Alpine uses thick structural steel rafters and timber framing to get the most durable building. This means you get a 50-year building consent, while many cheaper options will only get a 25-year building consent.
Designed for durability and efficiency, quality materials ensure your animal shelter stands strong for generations to come.
"Everything worked well, we had all the materials here when we needed. The quality of the timber was excellent."
