Lean-to Steel Rafter Construction

The Lean-to Steel Rafter clearspan range was introduced in 2009 to meet requests from clients who wanted a Lean-to shed with no centre poles.

This popular design, also know as a mono or single pitch shed, is simple, strong and fast to install, and uses the same design principles as our Gable range. The design includes purlin cleats already welded on, with no need to screw on purlin brackets or do any onsite welding.

Our Lean-to Steel Rafter range has standard spans of 9.0m and 12.0m, with the bay widths designed to your requirements.

The Alpine difference:

  • Quality Components: All timber is H3.2 tanalised or greater, and poles are H5 treated for 50 years protection.
  • Pre-dried Timber: The timber roof purlins are strip-stacked to dry before packing into a kitset, meaning it is a lot lighter, easier and safer to build.
  • Timber Framing: Timber framing gives you a building that breathes, is more temperature controlled, and is quiet to work in.
  • 0.4 Gauge cladding: Heavier & stronger roof and wall cladding than many shed companies offer.
  • Placed & welded purling hangers: Purlins simply slot into Alpine designed J-hangers that have been pre-welded onto your Steel Rafters. These have been proven to save hours of install time.
  • Bolted connections: All rafter and purlin connections are bolted or welded during fabrication. This gives you connections that are much stronger than using tek screws and pressed steel brackets.
  • Nested purlins and girts: All the purlins and girts (steel or timber options) are nested between the rafters and columns. This gives you the maximum interior width and height inside the shed.
  • No knee or apex braces: The Alpine design has no need for large obtrusive apex or knee braces inside the shed. This means you get maximum head room and side room inside the shed.
  • Hot dip galvanising: HDG is a process that coats the entire surface area of the steel in molten zinc after the steel is fabricated. This results in a protection coating that is 2.5 times thicker than cold rolled steel that is coated prior to roll forming.
  • Box section rafter design: The impressive clearspan rafters are made out of a rectangular hollow section (RHS). As the RHS is typically only 300mm deep, you get maximum clearance and space inside your shed.
  • Birdproof rafters: A unique feature of the Alpine building design is the birdproof rafters. These rafters are designed especially to reduce places for birds to perch and nest in the roof space.
