FORESTRY CONTRACTING

We had the pleasure of working with one of Marlborough’s most progressive forest harvesting businesses. Based out of Blenheim they run 4 logging gangs and service the industry with cable logging, mechanised felling and ground-based logging solutions. All of this requires a wide range of heavy plant machinery including loaders, skidder, excavators, tether machines, fellers and more. Their industry-leading machinery needed a workshop that could get the job done so the team turned to Alpine Buildings.

THE CHALLENGE

This forestry contractor's previous workshops hadn’t featured the height needed, which meant that extra time was spent folding machinery for storage and then unfolding for use. Given the chance to build a custom shed for the business’s needs meant requiring a design optimised for efficiency. Previous sheds also allowed birds to roost in the rafters, meaning unsightly mess on machinery, and additional time spent cleaning this off. This forestry contracting business also needed a workshop that wasn’t as noisy as others on the market, and the team didn’t want to waste time on consents and needed a partner that would handle this for them.

Alpine sheds are the solution for your large warehouse needs

THE SOLUTION

Initially the contracting firm went to 3 different suppliers (as is standard practise for this forestry contractor) and found that Alpine would handle consents and work in partnership with them to create a design which met their business needs.

Alpine could design the perfect shed at the size required and within specification. The shed works well for their business due to the height, width and versatility enabling the machinery to be loaded in with ease and locked securely when not in use. There are 2 bays at 20m and 15m span, ideal for the larger pieces of machinery. The business makes great use of the height and clearspan as it means they can get their machinery in without having to fold them up. The timber frame helps reduce the sound within the workshop so they’re a nice and quiet building, despite the size.
